30th September 2022

Dear Parents/Carers
It has been another busy week at Appleton Wiske with lots of learning going on inside and outside the classroom.
We are enjoying our Celebration Assemblies every Friday – join us at 2:30pm in the school hall if you would like to
celebrate with the children.

Our whole school attendance is currently 95.8%. Please remember that holiday requests will not be authorised.
Thank you for your support. Our fortnightly attendance award is very popular with the children – well done to
Class 1 for winning the award.

We have an active and supportive Governing Body. If you would like to know more about the work of the
Governing Body, please get in touch with Mr Clark who will be happy to arrange a meeting with our Chair of
Governors – Scott Wilson. We are looking for Associate Governors to help support the school and its work – we
would love to hear from you. Thank you.

The next Friends meeting is on Thursday 3rd November at 6:00pm in the Lord Nelson. Everybody is welcome and
we would really like to hear from anybody who is willing to help out this year. Thank you.

A massive thank you to Josh Ring and his family for preparing the wildlife area for another year. Roger and
Rosy Key, who you may remember helped set up the wildlife area a few years ago, were also part of the group on
Saturday who prepared the area. It was a huge task and we really appreciate everybody’s hard work.

Well done to our Year 5/6 hockey team for finishing in 2nd place at the Quicksticks tournament on Tuesday. The
team were a credit to our school and played with great sportsmanship and positive attitudes. Congratulations to
Charlie, Edward, Erin, Ewan, Josh and Poppy.

On Tuesday, the children in Reception and Year 1 enjoyed their first Forest School session of the year. Thank you
to the staff who ran the session and a special thank you to Ken Blackwood for providing support on the day as well
as getting the learning environment ready for the children.
Happy, Healthy and Productive

Save the date for our Harvest Festival which will take place in the school hall. Please arrive at 1:50pm so we can begin
at 2:00pm. We look forward to celebrating with you.

(Please inform the office staff of your child’s individual achievements and we will include these in our newsletters)
Well done to Will Ferrie for winning the Top Young Handler at the recent Eggleston Show. A fantastic achievement
and he was even in the newspaper!

Tempest Photography will be visiting school on Thursday 6th October 2022 to take individual photographs or
with siblings that are in school. Please ensure your children wear full uniform. Thank You.

Please note that on Thursday 6th October NYES Catering will be serving a special ‘Fairground’ menu:
MAINS: Hot Dog, Chips & Corn on the Cob OR Ham Sandwich (Please note: there will be no Veggie Dog)
DESSERT: Dipping Dinky Doughnuts

Northallerton School & Sixth Form College are hosting their Year 6 Open Evening on Thursday 13th October, from
5:00pm to 7:00pm. All Year 6 pupils will receive an invitation to attend.
Enjoy the weekend with your families.

Yours faithfully
Mr N Clark
